Persuasive Speech – John Adams

October 26, 2010

I am John Adams, a perfect choice for the presidency, as I have much experience in the workings of our newly formed government, experience in foreign affairs, and I can use that knowledge to better the lives of the people of our great nation.

I attended the Continental Congress as our nation started to rise against the tyranny of Great Britain. At the Second Continental Congress, I was a strong advocate for the Declaration of Independence that marked the beginning of a country where people would stand up for themselves and fight for what’s right. The representatives of this nation not only broke to pieces the chains holding our nation, but cut the ties which had bound them, and launched into an ocean of uncertainty. I was an active member of congress, as I nominated George Washington to be commander-in-chief of the colonial armies. My choice was great exceptional George Washington was unanimously elected the first president of this extraordinary nation.

As the Revolutionary War raged on, and eventually came to an end, the people of America were not abandoned by their good sense, presence of mind, resolution, or integrity. Instead, the people pursued a plan to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty. The public discussions and deliberations found in the Constitution of the United States. As the war grew old, I participated in the development of the Treaty of Peace with Great Britain. Once both sides agreed, I took part in the signing of the treaty that ended the Revolutionary War. I have made an impact on the history of this nation. I have been a history maker!

In 1789, as George Washington was elected president, I, John Adams, was elected as his vice president, allowing me to gain experience and knowledge of the inner workings of our government. If I am elected president, I will continue to make our country’s government strong and listen to the voice of the people. As, a strong central government would have the strength to aid merchants and manufacturers, and to safeguard America’s society. I assure you that my running for office was no light decision, as I believe that the office should seek out the man rather than the man pursue the office. I have made great sacrifices for this nation, especially during the Revolution, and I deserve to be president. For a stronger government, to aid the people and build a stronger foundation for our children, vote for me, John Adams.
